Notes for Dorothy Buell:

Weygant, p. 102, has her name as Deborah. Her birth record has her name as Dorothy. [Sheffield V.R.]

------

Miss Deborah Buell, daughter of Ebenezer Buell.

A parchment deed, dated May 30, 1780, conveying 59 acres of land in the town of Goshen, Litchfield County, Conn., was, in 1905, in possession of Mr. Marvin Sackett, of Lebanon, N. Y. The grantor is Ebenezer Buell and the grantee Buell Sacket. The consideration clause reads, "given in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and do bear unto Buell Sacket, my grandson."

William Buell, colonist, came to America prior to 1639 and settled at Windsor, Conn., where his oldest son, Samuel Buell, was born, Sept. 2, 1641, and was married, Nov. 30, 1662, to Deborah Griswold, daughter of Edward Griswold, Esq., of Killingsworth, Conn. John Buell, a son of said Samuel and his wife Deborah, was born Feb. 17, 1671, and was married, Nov. 20, 1695, to Mary Loomis, and they were the parents of Ebenezer Buell, the father-in-law of (174) Benjamin Sacket. - [Weygant, p. 102]

------

Benjamin Jr., b. 21 Dec. 1731, bapt. 25 June 1732, Westfield,

living 1769 and 1770 in New Lebanon, N. Y., later return to

Sheffield as all his children were recorded there, 1762-1776;

he left Sheffield again after the war ended. The Sackett

Gen. states he m. about 1761, Deborah Buell, daughter of

Ebenezer Buel1, and cites a deed drawn in 1786, by which

Ebenezer Buell conveyed to his grandson, Buell Sackett, land

in Goshen, Conn. However, her name appears as Dorothy, in

the Sheffield V.R.*

*Welles' 1881, Buell Family, p. 52, states that Dorothy, b. 19

May 1739, dau. of Ebenezer and Dorothy (Gillett) Buel1, of Lebanon

and Litchfield, Conn., one of 13 children, had no sister Deborah.

Her father, said Ebenezer, d. 25 Febe 1801, Litchfield, etc.

- [Winfred Lovering Holman, S.B; F.A.S.G; "Genealogies of Connecticut Families, Vol. III, Sacket-Stanton"].

Dorothy's youngest child, Calvin, was b. 21 Oct 1776 in Sheffield, Massachusetts, so she clearly was alive on that date. The 1942 application of Leland Richard Williams states that Dorothy died in 1776, citing Weygant's Sacketts of America and ""family records in possession of Mrs. Blanche E. Williams of Auburn, New York" as his sources. As of 2024, the application is the only source that gives a death date for Dorothy Buell Sacket.
