SCHENK, George Winston Jr., 81, of Route 6, Wheatland Road, Bedford, died unexpectedly Monday, December 13, 1993 at his residence. He was born in Bedford County, April 2, 1912. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, George Winston Schenk Sr. and Bessie Kasey Schenk, and his stepmother, Rosa Lewis Schenk. He was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, a retired employee of Coffey and Saunders Farm Store and farmer. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Eakin Schenk; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane S. and Phillip M. Jurkus of Bedford, Barbara S. and Richard L. Cromer of Salem; a sister, Mary Buford Keeler of Elberton, Ga.; two half sisters, Nancy S. Curle of Richmond and Betty S. Stewart of Christiansburg; also two granddaughters, Jennifer St.Clair and Holly Jurkus. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Dr. Michael R. DuVal officiating. Memorials may be made to the Bedford Life Saving Crew. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home.
