Early settler in Vermilion County, married Lura Butler, granddaughter of James D. Butler, founder of Butler's Point now known as Catlin. Enlisted in Co. G, 125th IL Infantry during Civil War and fought bravely for 3 years. Was a brickmaker and father of 5.

DIED
On Thursday night, April 12th, 1883, at his residence on the Denmark road near the city limits, of consumption James H. Burgoyne.
The funeral will be held to-day at 11 o'clock at his late residence, Rev. B. Hyde officiating. He was a member of the Knights of Honor, and a three years soldier of the 125th Ill Infantry. All old soldiers, especially those of his regiment are invited to be present. Knights of Honor are also requested to attend. He leaves a wife and four children.
