Opelousas - In loving memory, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mary Beth Tate at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of committal will be held at the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Tate, age 66, died on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at her residence after a long battle with her illness surrounded by her family.

Mary Beth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was a member of the Come Lord Jesus group in Washington, a member of the Washington Garden Club and a member of a rosary group. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and baking.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Dr. Richard Tate, of Opelousas, LA; her daughters, Jacqueline Renee Tate Henson and husband, Roger Henson, II, of Lafayette, LA; Dr. Rachael Tate Burnell and husband, Dr. Michael Burnell, of Opelousas, LA; Dr. Jennifer Claire Tate Brasseaux and husband, Andre’ Brasseaux, of Carencro, LA; Rebecca Gayle Tate Richard and husband, Anthony Richard, Jr., of Sunset, LA and her brother, Leo Francis Whitney, Jr. of Cutoff, LA. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Cole Henson, Luke Henson, Kylie Henson, Olivia Hebert, Benjamin Burnell, Collin Burnell, Grace Burnell, Jackson Burnell, Aaron Brasseaux, Noah Richard and Gabriel Richard.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leo F. Whitney, Sr.; her mother, Marrianne Whitney; her brother, David Whitney and her sister, Karen Marcum.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, October 10, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will reopen on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. until service time. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Gift Bearers will be Peggy Whitney, Olivia Hebert, Grace Burnell and Kylie Henson. Readers will be Leo Whitney, Jr. and Virginia Fontenot. Pallbearers will be Roger Henson, II, Dr. Michael Burnell, Andre’ Brasseaux, Anthony Richard, Jr., Keith Fontenot, Benjamin Burnell and Collin Burnell.
