William Hunt “Bill” Brookshire, 87, of Pine Bluff died Thursday, October 9. Born in Pine Bluff June 26, 1927, a son of John Anthony and Lena Brooks Brookshire, Bill grew up in Pine Bluff and was a 1945 Pine Bluff High School graduate.
Joining the US Navy, he steamed into Tokyo Harbor aboard the USS Casablanca at the end of WWII.
Returning home, Bill worked for Smart Chevrolet as a mechanic, marrying Helen Juanita Watts on June 27, 1947.
Bill worked for 35 years at Federal Compress and Warehouse as a mechanic and 12 years with the Arkansas Department of Correction Hospital Unit. He loved his family, church, Pine Bluff and Jefferson County, serving as a city councilman and justice of the peace for 20 years. His son stated “He had a strong faith in Jesus and they met Thursday.”
He loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children, raising one, Danny McDaniel, as his own son. Bill had a special gift as a caregiver, exhibiting it with his wife through a long illness, his sisters, and Jack and Audrey Watts his parents-in-law.
The last of twelve children, his survivors include his son, William A. “Bill” Brookshire (Tammy) of Flippin, Arkansas; daughter, Susan Brown of North Pole, Alaska; and grandchildren, Jason and Aaron Brown.
Services were, October 13, 2:00 p.m., Ralph Robinson & Son Chapel with Reverend George Mitchell officiating.
