William Louis Winkler was born August 26, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa: the son of Louis and Beatrice (Hutzenbuehler) Winkler. He graduated from Loras Academy, then received his Masters from the University of Northern Iowa.

William served in the United States Marines Corps. On August 10, 1968, he was united in marriage to Judy Gruber at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque.

William worked at River Hills School Area 7 for 35 years until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing and loved delivering telephone books. After his retirement, William worked at the food bank.

William passed away on October 5, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center at the age of 74 from natural causes.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Beatrice Winkler.

William is survived by his wife Judy of Waterloo; a son Chad (Tina Marie Opbroek) Winkler of Conrad, Iowa; a daughter Tracy and her husband Gregory Tippery of St. John, Indiana; a half brother John Winkler of Las Vegas, Nevada; 3 sisters: Betty Birch, Eileen Heiar and June Giesemann all of Dubuque and a half sister Joyce Sunderland of Hazel Green, Wisconsin.

Burial with military rites will follow services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo.
