Daughter of Hiram and Minerva (MILLER) BACON. Married to first to John Edgnar Whitcomb and second Clinton Armstrong. Obituary: Mrs. M. Armstrong Dies On Saturday; Rites To Be Monday. Mrs. Martha Jane Whitcomb Armstrong, 90, of Michigantown, died at 5:10 a.m. Saturday at Boyleston of a stroke after an illness of eight weeks. She had lived in this county all her life and resided in Cyclone when the cyclone that gave the community its name hit the area about 1875. She had spent most of her life in and around Michigantown. Born June 7, 1863, in Clinton County, daughter of Hiram and Minerva (Miller) Bacon, she was married in 1884 to John E. Whitcomb who died April 22, 1922. She was married in 1929 to Clinton Armstrong who died in 1939. Surviving are two sons, Jesse Earl Whitcomb, of this city, and Taylor Whitcomb, of Boyleston; two daughters, Goldie Florence Jones, of Michigantown, and Eva V. Johnson, of Frankfort; two grandsons, Herschel L. Johnson of Kilmore, and John Alphus Chaney of Elwood; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosie Garland, of Logansport, and Bessie Henderson, of Chicago. A daughter, Etta Chaney, and a son, Willie, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday from the Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Harry Odel in charge. Burial in Whiteman cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
