RHOADES, Steve A. Steve Alan Rhoades of Wardensville, WV passed away on October 1, 2014 after a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Mr. Rhoades was born on February 18, 1942 in Greenville, OH, the son of the late George and Thelma (Albright) Rhoades.

He received his undergraduate degree at Wittenberg University where he was also a collegiate wrestler and member of Phi Mu fraternity. He also received a Master's degree at Xavier University. Mr. Rhoades had an outstanding professional career including 27 years as principal of Bellbrook High School in Bellbrook, OH.

He was a caring mentor for his students coaching Track, Football, and Wrestling while he also attended all the other extra-curricular activities of the school as he wanted all students to succeed. During his time as principal Mr. Rhoades was also President of South Western Buckeye League (SWBL) and a recipient of the North Central Association John Vaughn Excellence in Education Award. Upon retirement Mr. Rhoades and his wife Sue moved to Wardensville where he continued his quest to make the community a better place.

He was president of the Zoning Board and Appeals Committee and a War Memorial Board Member. One of his passions was being President of the Lion's Club for 13 years. This culminated with him receiving the Melvin Jones Award (the highest honor in Lion's Club). In the little spare time he did have he was a staunch supporter of the Republican Party. Preceding him in death along with his parents is his sister Helen Rhoades Anthony.

Surviving are Sue (Henderson) Rhoades - his wife of 49 years and their three sons: Randy Alan Rhoades of Chester, MD, Stephen Warden Rhoades and his wife Judy of Canfield, OH, and Dr. Torre Henderson Rhoades of Scottsdale, AZ. Mr. Rhoades has four grandchildren he adored: Emily, Elizabeth, Stephen, and Katie. They will miss their grandpa.

Also surviving is Mr. Rhoades's brother: Richard Rhoades and his wife Marilyn. Finally he is survived by thousands of students he inspired as principal of Bellbrook High School.

A funeral service will be held at the Loy-Giffin Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 1 PM. Officiating will be Rev. Michael Funkhouser & Pastor David Twedt. Interment will be in the Wardensville Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Wardensville Vol. Rescue Squad, PO Box 2, Wardensville, WV 26851.
