Charles H. Martin Jr., age 74, Joplin, passed away at 7:25 a.m. Saturday, May 07, 2011, at Freeman West Hospital. Charles was born March 23, 1937, in Rose Creek, Minn., to the late Charles H. Martin Sr. and Mabel Waller Martin. He had lived in Joplin since 1973, moving from Osage, Iowa. He worked as a machinist for Oliver Corporation in Charles City, Iowa, for several years. He had also operated a Gulf Station in Osage, Iowa for several years. After moving to Joplin, he worked at Vickers, Inc., as a machinist for several years. He then worked at Missouri Southern State College in the custodial department until his retirement in 1996. Charles was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He married Sandra Skou in 1960 in Lyle, Minn. She survives at the home. Additional survivors include his children, Dennis Martin, Lincoln, Neb., Debbie Lindsey, Joplin, Douglas Martin, Pittsburg, Kan., Diane Rainey, Joplin, and Donna Boyd, Joplin; one brother, Arthur Martin, Fairmont, Minn.; three sisters, Helen Rahnenfehrer, Anna Mae Aaker and Marilyn Nelson, all of Rochester, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Linda Landherr, Rose Creek; 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Charlie King will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
