Abbie's health is mentioned at some length in "My First Knowledge of Osteopathy," a manuscript written by her sister, Mary, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Richard H. Burbank in a reminiscence wrote:
"About Aunt Abbie, I could write reams...she was short, plump, didn't have any lap for a child to sit on. Lived with my grandmother until her death. About her only means of self-support was selling made-to-measure corsets. I sometimes drove a horse for her to go around and measure up women for a Spirella Corset. She and my grandmother lived last in a house next to the jail on the road to Vershire. Grandmother died there...and I bought some of their furniture. Aunt Abbie went to live with a sister in Rutland or Brattleboro, possibly tried both."
