Violet Helena "Lena" Street was one of six children born to Thomas Dudley Street and Rebecca Jane Selby Street. She was born in Texas, where her family resided before filing a claim on land in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) in 1898. There is some confusion with her name, with some records showing it as Helena A. Our family records, however, say Violet Helena, with "Aunt Lena" identifying her on old photos.

On June 15, 1880, Lena married Stephen D. Chitwood, a Kentucky native who was living and working in Chico, Texas. Lena and Stephen had two children: Oscar Lee Chitwood and Maude Chitwood Marshall.

Lena was widowed in 1894. By 1910 she had remarried, to a William J Smith, and they were living in Oklanoma City. By 1920 she had once again been widowed, and the Census finds her living with her daughter and son-in-law.
In 1940, Lena was living in Georgia with her son and daughter-in-law.

I have not been able to locate her burial location. Should it ever turn up I will update this memorial.
