Born in Rabun County March 4, 1944, he was the son of the late Ed M. Keener and Kate Green Keener. He was the widower of Mary Messer Keener. Gerry was a carpenter by trade and was a member of Joy Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Keener and by two brothers, Michael and Curtis Keener. He is survived by one son, Michael (Mickey) Keener of Clayton., two daughters, Cindy Ramey of Gainesville and Rebecca Hollifield of Clayton. Four brothers, Ronnie Keener, Elberton, GA., Steve Keener, Rabun Gap, Rev. David Green of Kentucky, Brownlow Green of Franklin, NC. Eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
