From The New Castle Record, dated May 5, 1917:
Ballard Paxton, aged 35 years, a resident of the Barbours Creek section, died at a Roanoke hospital on last Friday evening. He had been ill about a month. He leaves a wife and eight small children who have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. L. Rocke, at the home of his mother ~Mrs. Wilson~ in Craig City Sunday at 11 a.m. and interment made in the Waugh graveyard.
