On Thursday morning, March 24, 1904, at 7.30 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Sophia Hoffman at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Anderson, at Mazeppa, Minn. The deceased was born in York county, Pa., on the 11th day of September, 1830. She lived with her parents on a farm near there until 1850, when she was united in marriage to George W. Hoffman and moved to Centre township, Perry county, Pa., and lived on a farm near New Bloomfield, at which place her husband died in 1873. In 1879 she removed to Minnesota and made her home with her children until her death. She was 73 years, 6 months and 13 days old.
The deceased was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom survive her, namely: Mrs. Maggie Mullen, of Dellville; George W. Hoffman, of New Bloomfield; Mrs. Mahala Cook and Philip Hoffman, of Harrisburg; Mrs. Julius Meyers, Mrs. Elmira Books and Harvey Hoffman of Hammond, Minn.; James Hoffman, of Zumbsota, Minn., and Mrs. W. H. Anderson, of Mazeppa, Minn., at whose home she lived at the time of her death.
The remains were brought by Mrs. Anderson to Centre township to the home of her son, George, and funeral services were held on Monday, 28th ult., at 10.30 a. m., Rev. Nicholas officiating. Interment was made in Bloomfield graveyard, where she was laid to rest beside her husband and two children. Mrs. Hoffman was a christian woman and a member of the Lutheran church at Bloomfield, and always kept to the church of her youth while in the west. The children have the sympathy of the entire community in this their hour of bereavement.
