Dorotha L. Rigney, 90 year old Checotah resident, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014 in Tulsa. She was born on Friday, June 13, 1924 to Ira Thomas "Tom" and Nora Lee (Dornan) Williams in Porum. Dorotha grew up in Checotah until the 8th grade. At age 17, she married Lawrence Rigney on Saturday, June 14, 1941, in Checotah where she became a homemaker. They later moved to California back to Checotah for a brief time before moving to Muskogee for 12 years then back to Checotah. She was an excellent seamstress, made the family clothes, loved to crochet, quilt and work with her hands, was a wonderful cook, enjoyed canning and especially working with Lawrence in his construction business. Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill and Bob Williams and sister, Naomi Hughes. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 73 years, Lawrence of the home; daughter, Carolyn Burnett and husband Johnny of Broken Arrow, Larry Rigney and wife Margaret of Checotah. Dorotha is also survived by three grandchildren, David Burnett of Broken Arrow, Jana Tabberer and husband Chris of Broken Arrow and Samantha Rigney of Eufaula; three great grandchildren, Kierstin Burnett, Erin and Jordan Tabberer all of Broken Arrow; brother, Tommy Williams of Council Hill, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.1940 United States Federal Census
