Betty L. Whetzel, 72, Moorefield, W.Va., died Friday, June 19, 1998, at the Pendleton County Nursing Home in Franklin, W.Va., where she had lived since June 10.
Mrs. Whetzel was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Hardy County, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Homer Raines and Thelma Liller Raines.
She was employed at Raygold and Boise Cascade in Moorefield, which is now American Woodmark. She was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church in Fisher, W.Va. and the Ladies' Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9606 of Moorefield.
On Dec. 25, 1945, she married Wilmer W. Whetzel, who died May 10, 1977.
Surviving are two sons, Alan Wetzel and Mark Whetzel, both of Moorefield; two daughters, Brenda Fawley and Debra Bergdall, both of Moorefield; three sisters, Laura Belle Hedrick, Harrisonburg, Virginia, Virginia Flinn, Petersburg, W.Va., and Juanita See, Fisher, W.Va.; three brothers, Charles Raines, Falls Church, Virginia and Gilbert "Rocky" Raines and Gordon Raines, both of Moorefield; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her body has been cremated. The Rev. Laurean Smith will conduct a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Moorefield Public Library.
Arrangements are by the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va.
