CIM Officer Dies in Duarte
Merrill Burton Van Fleet, 50, died at the City of Hope, Duarte, Thursday.
Mr. Van Fleet, a correctional officer at the California Institutional for Men, had been in the hospital for the past 10 months. Mabel Van Fleet, and family, at 13814 S. Grove street.
The Rev. Melvin, pastor of the Laird Community church will officiate at services handled by Griffith Mortuary. Private services were held at Griffith Chapel, Saturday, 1 p. m. Friends called at the chapel Friday afternoon.
Interment was in Bellevue cemetery, Ontario.
Mr. Van Fleet had been in Chico for 10 years, moving here from Artesia. He was born in Garland, Utah.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Esta Van Fleet and Caroline Van Fleet,
a son, Merrill Van Fleet, all of the home address, Chino;
two sisters, Mrs. Iva Jensen, Maywood, and Mrs. Leah Eames, Chico;
and four brothers, W. P. Van Fleet, Salt Lake City, Utah; Glen Van Fleet, Temple City; Joseph Van Fleet, Maywood; and Keith Van Fleet, Germany.
