He retired from Bayer Corp. of Houston after 32 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959-65.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale Edward Williams and sister, Trudy Williams Pillow.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen Denice Williams of Austin; mother of Karen Denice, Shirley Strang of Conroe; care giver, Edna F. Williams of Livingston; sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrtle and Jack Shepherd of Pasadena, TX Vivian and George Johnson of Trinity TX and Florence and Bill Meachum of Houston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith and Paula Williams of Humble TX and Alton "Bubby" and Sandy Williams of Highlands TX; brother-in-law Bobby Pillow; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Hood officiating. Melvin was buried near his son Dale and his parents, Alton and Edna Williams in Menard Chapel Cemetery.
Military honors were conducted by the VFW Post 8568 Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Roger Stone Sr., Roger Stone Jr., Ray Duff, Q.R. "Cooter" Duff, Mark Mueck and Charles Duff Jr. Honorary pallbearers were George Johnson, Jack Shepherd, Sam Duff, Horace Duff, Dr. Rakla, Dr. Katherine Lewis, Dr. Pierce Khoury and his nurses at Northeast Medical Center Hospital in Humble.
