Melvin P. Adams, 83, of Grand Junction, CO formerly of Greeley died Monday, November 18, 1996 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction.

He was born August 29, 1913 in Montezuma, IA to Claude and Myrtle (Ourdum) Adams. On June 7, 1940 he married Margaret Hunt in Fort Collins, CO. She died June 13, 1987.

Mr. Adams moved as a young man to Goodland, KS then to Sterling where he graduated from high school. He earned his bachelor of science degree in 1938 from Colorado State University and his master's degree in 1956.

Mr. Adams taught school in Wiggins before World War II. He entered the Army in 1941, served in the South Pacific and earned among other medals, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with a bronze arrowhead. He was released from active service as a major in 1946. He was in the Army Reserve until 1973, when he was discharged as a lieutenant colonel.

After the war he came to Greeley and taught vocational agriculture at Greeley Central High School until 1973 when he retired.

Mr. Adams was a member of the First Christian church. He was past president of District 2 of the National Vocational Ag Association, a member of the Greeley Rotary Club, Greeley Lodge No. 809 BPOE, the Colorado Education Association, and a delegate from Morgan County to the National Teachers Association.

Survivors are two sons, Rex of Grand Junction and Gary of El Centro, CA; a brother, Forest of Wellington, CO; and five grandnephews. A son, Terry "Snoop" and two brothers, Carl and Marvin are deceased.

Memorial services will be at 1pm Monday, November 25, 1996 at Adamson Memorial chapel. Private family inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to the Greeley FFA Chapter. Brought to you by: Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services
