To Scatter Ashes of Sailor on Ocean

Ashes of the body of Lester L. Doty, 48, former Ludington resident and the first Michigan man to enlist in World War I, will be scattered on one of the oceans from a destroyer in compliance with his wishes.

Mr. Doty died Sunday at his home in Hart where funeral services were held Wednesday.

He was discharged from active duty with the Navy in April, 1937, retiring after 20 years of service. He had received many citations, among them one for meritorious conduct during an explosion in a gun turret and another during the Morro Castle disaster.

He was a son of Frank Doty and brother of Charles Doty and Mrs. Bert Johnson of Ludington.
