Ms. Joan Bowen Smith, 82, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland with burial following in Natchez Trace Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Wednesday and 10 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

A native of Arkansas, Ms. Smith graduated from Wilson High School in Wilson Arkansas. She was known by all her family and friends as "Jo". She was an avid Mississippi State fan. She and grandson, Kyle, loved cheering on the Bulldogs every chance they could, whether watching them on TV or listening on the radio. Ms. Smith was a member of Christ Life Church in Ridgeland where she served as a greeter. Jo was a VFW volunteer and member of the Ladies Auxiliary where she served a term as President. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mr. Parker Bowen and Ms. Gertrude Bowen Carter.

She is survived by her sons: Mike Smith and Cathy of Naples, FL, Gary Smith and Michele, of Madison, MS daughters: Cindy Hampton and Donnie of Pocahontas, MS, Lynn Long and Jason of Kingwood, TX, sister: Peggy Simmons and Mark, Belzoni, MS, brothers: Dan Bowen and Anne, Madison, MS, Jim Bowen and Kenny, Bartlett, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tommy Smith and Haley, Leanne Henderson and Russ, Wes Hampton, Joel Smith, Jennifer Long, Carrie Jarvi and Jon, Kristin Smith, Melissa Denson and Josh, Kyle Smith and Matt Smith. Great grandchildren: Ralyn Smith, Kate Henderson, Tye Henderson, Ella Grace Henderson, Faith Jarvi, Hayleigh Jarvi, and Hannah Jarvi and many nieces and nephews.
