Dazey, Reta 85 July 22, 1927 April 14, 2013 Reta Mae Dazey was born in San Angelo, Texas on July 22, 1927, to Ernest and Ola Deats. She was the second of four children. Following graduation from Eastern Oregon College in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in education, she met and married Marion Dazey in La Grande. In 1961, they moved to Portland, where she taught in the Rockwood and David Douglas school districts until her retirement in 1985. Reta had four sons and one daughter and was very active with her husband in supporting all of them in Boy Scout, Girl Scout, school and church activities. The family was active in both St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and St. Michael's Episcopal Church for many years. After retirement, Reta remained very active in the Portland square dancing community. Reta loved traveling, gardening, crosswords and teaching her grandchildren and neighbor children how to read. Reta was preceded in death by husband, Marion in 1991. Survived by children, Kenneth Dazey of Anchorage, Alaska. Dr. Steven Dazey of North Richland Hills, Texas. Dr. Carol Jaskoviak of Fort Stockton, Texas, Robert Dazey of Concord, Ga. and Brian Dazey of Portland. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. No service was held at her request, private interment at Willamette National Cemetery.
