Dorothy Esther (Benskin) Anderson, 79, of Bremerton died April 7, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center of complications from a stroke.

She was born May 10, 1922, in Nevada, Mo., to Delbert C. and Juanita (Segal) Benskin. She graduated from Bremerton High School and, in 1945, from a Seattle nursing school.

She had worked as a licensed practical nurse in many hospitals and nursing homes.

She married Albert Anderson on Nov. 13, 1982, in Port Orchard. He preceded her in death in 2000.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of Silverdale Lutheran Church. She traveled extensively and enjoyed knitting, crochet and singing.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Smith of Olalla and Albert Smith Jr. of Poulsbo; two daughters, Mary Burch of Bremerton and Jonita Tederman; two brothers, Bud Benskin of Eldorado Springs, Mo., and Bill Benskin of Port Orchard; two sisters, Evelyn Barker of Colville and Anita Buchanan of Port Orchard; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grand-children.

She also was preceded in death by four siblings, Nellie Danielson of Bremerton, and George, Ida Mae and Clarence Benskin.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, both at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A reception precedes the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Rill Chapel. Entombment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park. An online memorial can be seen at www.rill.com.
