John Edward Lively didn't live long, but in his short life, he showed a grown man's caring and love. Along with his sister Rosamae, he helped nurse his mother back to health after two miscarriages and on January 31, 1924, Edward and his father worked tirelessly around the clock to save his premature baby sister who weighed only 1 lb. 12 oz. Johnny and Edward turned their little cabin into an incubator, keeping the wood stove burning constantly. Edward fed his tiny baby sister with an eyedropper every hour until she could suckle and he hand sewed flannel into diapers and buntings as they had no clothes small enough for a preemie. His last efforts were to help his baby sister learn to walk before he passed away.
