Calvin Monroe (Cal) Burns, age 85 of Joplin, passed away at 3:38 p.m. on August 9, 2014 at his home.

Born March 1, 1929 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Charles O. Burns and Mary Williams Burns, and lived in Joplin his lifetime. He began his career in the Office Supply business in 1946, retiring in 1997. His last 20 years were as a sales representative with Howsmon’s Office Supply, Joplin. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

On March 12, 1966, he married Karen Rotert in Joplin. She survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Bradley Burns and wife Allie, Terry Burns, all of Joplin, Larry Burns and wife Shiela of Diamond, MO; three daughters, Christina Schoen and husband Brian of Kansas City, MO, Nancy Richards of Littleton, CO, Vicki Snively and husband Ted of Independence, MO; one sister, Mary Mitchel of Joplin; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A son, Steve Burns, preceded him in death.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. In honor of Cal’s wishes, no services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice, in care of the mortuary.
