Death claimed James B. Allen, 76, after a full and active life. He was born here Feb. 22, 1896, and was graduated from Galesburg High in 1914. He attended Northwestern and Marquette Universities and the Chicago Art Institute. He died Jan. 5 in St. Mary's Hospital.
Allen retired 11 years ago after serving as President of the Trades Labor Assembly and as business agent for the IBEW Union Local. He spent much time since traveling and enjoying his hobbies of photography, reading and writing. He kept a diary for 40 years. He loved life and lived it to the fullest taking a keen interest in local affairs. He was a founder of the Youth Center in the 1940s.
Serving in World War I, Allen received the Silver Star for gallantry while in France. He was a member of the V.F.W. and conducted local grave services. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The son of original settlers here, his grandfather was first male child born in a Log Cabin south of Lincoln Park.
He resided at 522 North Academy. Survivors are his widow and son, Martin E., of Galesburg. The funeral was held Monday and burial was in Linwood Cemetery.
