A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is Tuesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be given to Sacred Heart Church.
Mary Ellen was born April 23, 1921, in Chicago, the daughter of Bernard and Marie Bookland Johnson.
She married Alfred R. Sorensen on Sept. 27, 1949, in Chicago. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2006.
She enjoyed quilting and making porcelain dolls. Mary Ellen enjoyed traveling in Europe.
Mary Ellen was employed as a bookkeeper at Hershey Co., Chicago, retiring in 1986.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Peggy Hubbard, Jason Sorensen and Shellie (Jesse) Sorensen-Wonsowski; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Dakota, Nicholas and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Alfred.
