George Miller Aylsworth was the son of George Franklin and Sadie Aylsworth. His father was born in New York and immigrated to Michigan in 1872. The 1910 census shows the family living in Empire, Michigan. George F. was 54 years old and working as a miller; Sadie was 42. They had been married 21 years. Their children were Jessie age 21, Emmaretta 19, Helen 17, Alonzo 15, Anson 13, George 8.

George M. married Helen Hartwig shortly after the 1930 census was taken. They had a daughter Edith Marie who died as an infant in 1931. Prior to joining the fire department, George M. worked as a plumber’s helper for Fisher Body Company. He joined the Detroit Fire Department on March 17, 1925. He was a Ladderman assigned to Ladder 8. He died from injuries he received on March 29, 1929 while responding to a fire; his fire apparatus collided with a truck loaded with scrap metal. His body was taken home and buried in the same cemetery where other family members rest in peace.

Because of his duty death, Ladderman Aylsworth’s name is inscribed on the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial Monument, Stone 5, Row 9. The monument is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of County Center Drive East (north entrance) and N. Telegraph Rd., on Oakland County's complex at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac. The memorial has a website on the internet at www.michiganfallenheroes.com
