Louise Rowland Poling, 95, of Athens, died Friday morning, Sept. 29, 2006, at Pine Hills Continuing Care Center, Nelsonville.
Born Jan. 31, 1911, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Charles Elisha and Nora Ludwick Rowland.
A graduate of Athens High School, she graduated from Ohio University magna cum laude in 1933 with a bachelor's degree in secretarial science. She served as secretary in the circulation Department of The Athens Messenger, and for the Service Bureau at Ohio University, Midget Motors Corp., the U.S. Dental Program in Athens, and Army ROTC at Ohio University.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War and Athens Chapter Business and Professional Women's Club, and was elected to Cresset of Mortar Board.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. "Lon" Poling in 1983; and an infant grandson, Brian Lee Poling, in 1977.
