Educated at Albany Academy and Union College. Studied law. Appointed State Librarian, 1843. "One of the most accomplished and brilliant journalists of his time".Was editor of the Albany Atlas and Albany Argus newspapers.
In 1868 Cassidy became secretary of the Democratic State Committee. Member of the State Constitutional Convention, 1871, and in 1872 was appointed by Governor Hoffman to a commission to revise the constitution.
He was a excellent classical scholar and was conversant in French, German and Italian.
Although his crypt says he was born in 1818, I believe it to be wrong.
