Edna was the fifth child born to Gustave and Wilhelmina Maedke Badtke. She had 7 brothers and 4 sisters, all of whom helped out on their family farm. She moved to Sheboygan to care for her ill sister, meeting the love of her life, Melvin Kiel, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple married in 1927 and were blessed with a daughter, Carol, in 1930. Edna was very creative, taking great pleasure in gardening, sewing, knitting, and crochet. She also won many awards for her ceramic painting. Edna survived her husband by seven years, passing away in 2003.
