ONSLOW, Iowa - Albert J. Koppes, 92, of 16706 60th Avenue, Onslow, died at 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Temple Hill, with the Rev. Daniel Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Albert was born June 14, 1909, in Clay Mills, son of Nicholas and Mary Ann (Duffy) Koppes.

He received his education in the South Temple Hill area school.

On June 8, 1945 he was united in marriage to Afton Merrill in Logan, Utah. The couple farmed in the rural Temple Hill area, until retiring in 1974.

Albert was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish in Temple Hill and a member of the Cascade American Legion Post 528.

Surviving are by three sons, Nick Koppes and John (Gail) Koppes, of Onslow, and Mike Koppes, of Monticello; two daughters, Sarah (Mike) Bradley, of Onslow, and Janice (Bob) Moriarity, of Cascade; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Afton Koppes on April 29, 1994; four brothers and two sisters.

An Albert J. Koppes memorial fund has been established.
