Newman, Roxie C., age 91, of New Martinsville, WV, died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Phyllis Ritchie Personal Care Home in Sistersville, WV.
She was born April 1, 1920 in New Dale, WV, the daughter of the late James and Susan Blake Simmons.
Roxie worked in housekeeping at Wetzel County Hospital and also as a caregiver to the elderly. She was a member of the VFW Post 9930 Ladies Auxiliary in Duffy, Ohio and the First Christian Church in New Martinsville and also attended Steelton Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Newman in 1979; a son, James Joseph Newman; and two brothers, Otis Simmons and Harold Simmons.
Survivors include a son, Robert "Bob" (Pamela) Newman of New Martinsville; three grandchildren, Julie (Mark) Maidens of St. Clairsville, OH, Rob (Trina) Newman II of Clarington, OH and Michael (Angela) Newman of Marietta, OH; nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a special cousin, Ethel Thomas, and her caregivers for the past three years, Martha Neff and Connie Loy.
Family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, where funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00pm with Evangelist Ed Melott officiating.
Interment in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.
