James 'Skip' Blackwood, 53, of 310 S. Monroe St., died at 5 a.m. Saturday. May 24, 1997, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Mr. Blackwood was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Frankfort.

He received his civil engineer degree from University of Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Mo. He was a professional engineer and employed by Illinois Department of Transportation as district engineer of land acquisitions. He was a member of Illinois Right of Way Association. He was a 1st Lt. with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star.

He was born Jan. 7, 1944, in Murphysboro to James and Loretta Blackwood.

He married Shiela (Belbas) Blackwood. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, James M. Blackwood of West Frankfort: mother, Loretta Blackwood of Murphysboro: sister and her husband, Connie and David Fielding of Granite City: and mother-in-law, Vickie Belbas of West Frankfort.

He was preceded in death b) his father. James Blackwood.
