L.A. Ragsdale, the founder of Meridian, died in Memphis last week, at the residence of his daughter, and was buried on Sunday last, from the Presbyterian church in Meridian. The immense concourse at his funeral showed how highly he was esteemed by all classes in that city. He was a man of great public spirit, and was very wealthy, notwithstanding his investments in a number of unprofitable projects.

Grenada Gazette, Dec 18, 1886, p.8 col 5: "Mr. L.A. Ragsdale, of Meridian, a brother of Mr. G.W. Ragsdale, formerly of this place, died in Memphis on Monday last. Mr. Ragsdale is said to have been the founder of Meridian, and was a man who everbody admired. His funeral was attended by a multitude of people."

Assuming that the obituary is correct, the death date on the marker is wrong. He died on Dec. 12, not Dec. 10.
