Gregory Robert Gale, 60, peacefully died on Sept. 6, 2014, of a cerebral hemorrhage, a complication of a brain tumor with which he had been diagnosed one month prior.

Greg was born July 10, 1954, in The Dalles to George and Audrey-Anne Gale. He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1973. He attended Oregon College of Education for two years and later graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts education in 1981 from Oregon State University.

Greg married Sharry Haworth on Sept. 18, 1982. Sharry’s daughter, Tenille, was 6 at the time of their marriage. Ashley joined the family in 1983, and Sara in 1984.

Greg is survived by his wife, Sharry Gale; daughters Tenille Holroyd, Ashley Gale and Sara Gale Menendez; sons-in-law Byron Holroyd, Kyle Eveland-DeWan and Armando Menendez; and his grandsons, Jackson Holroyd, 7, and Samuel Holroyd, 4. He also is survived by his father, George Gale; and siblings Anne Gale, Kevin Gale, Ellen Peck, Mary Gale, John Gale and Tom Gale, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey-Anne Gale; and brother, Joseph.

Greg enjoyed growing up in The Dalles, as there were many opportunities for adventure. As a teenager, Greg took friends whitewater rafting on the Deschutes River in his dad’s army surplus boat. In the early 1980s, Greg operated Downhill Rivers Guide Services on many Oregon rivers.

Greg worked at Brand S Plywood, Leading Plywood in the local area, and American Hardwoods in Tualatin. Greg operated Team Leader Contracting starting in 1999, working on many commercial, residential, public works and industrial projects. Greg used his talents as a contractor to help Tenille and her family build a custom home.

He and his team built what his grandsons call “Grandpa’s Park” in the Coronado subdivision in Corvallis. His most recent project was the concrete and landscape upgrade south of Gill Coliseum at Oregon State University.

He was very involved with his girls growing up, coaching many sports and supporting them in all their pursuits. Over the years Greg enjoyed photography, running and spending time with his family. He especially cherished time spent with his grandsons.

About three years ago Greg started home brewing and became an accomplished home brewer, completing 70 batches of various beers for friends and family to enjoy. Greg loved getting to know people, and sharing his home brew was a new way to bring friends and family together.

Greg loved traveling, especially the past few years. He and Sharry made two trips to El Salvador to see their daughter Sara, who was in the Peace Corps, most recently this past November to celebrate Sara’s marriage to Armando. Greg and Sharry also enjoyed visiting Ashley and Kyle in Arizona, where Greg was introduced to beer brewing.

Last year Greg spent three weeks in Bolivia with his brother Kevin, sister-in-law Orna and sister Anne, where they enjoyed an eventful raft trip on the Tuichi River and explored areas near La Paz.
