George W. Dempsey, 91, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, in Glen Rose.
Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vine Life Pentecostal Church in Glen Rose. Interment: Post Oak Cemetery in Somervell County.
Memorials: Amerian Heart Association or a charity of choice.
Mr. Dempsey was born Dec. 28, 1915, in Somervell County to August and Allie Sirmon Dempsey. He married Marguerite Rice on Oct. 31, 1937, in Glen Rose. Mr. Dempsey served in the U.S. Army in World War II and retired from General Dynamics after 37 years of service. After retirement, he served as a volunteer firefighter in Somervell County for 12 years. He was named Volunteer Fireman of the Year in 1986.
Preceding him in death were a grandson, Brian Dempsey, and a granddaughter, Amanda Dempsey.
Survivors: Wife, Marguerite Dempsey of Glen Rose; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Mary Dempsey of Agnes, Marlin and Ann Dempsey of Walnut Springs, Larry and Paula Dempsey of Glen Rose, Gary and Debbie Dempsey of Godley and Ronald and Mary Lou Dempsey of Glen Rose; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Kleba Dempsey and wife, Marilyn, of Granbury, and Perry Dempsey and wife, Lou, of Granbury.
