Christena Vandenberg passed away November 6 at the Pella Community Nursing Home, at the age of 97 years.
Born south of Pella on October 4, 1890, to Abraham and Johanna Ver Steeg Goemaat, she was one of 15 children. She attended the Pleasant Grove rural school. On January 20, 1910, she was united in marriage to Gerrit J. Vandenberg. To this union five children were born.
She made her profession of faith at an early age and was a member of the Third Reformed Church.
She is survived by two sons: Abe of Pella, and Everett of Leighton; a daughter, Johanna (Mrs. Henry) Hackert of Pella; 21 grandchildren, 41 greatgrandchildren, and three great-greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerrit; son John; daughter Wilhelmina Aalbers; and a great-grandson, William Heiker.
Christena was the last remaining member of her family of 14 brothers and sisters who preceded her in death: two in infancy, six brothers: Arendt, Dick, Cornelius, John, Tunis, Marsailus; six sisters: Elizabeth (Mrs. Henry) Vander Beek, Jennie (Mrs. Marinus) Dc Zwarte, Lena (Mrs. Luke) Schakel, Nellie (Mrs. Bert) Olivier, Tunic (Mrs. Antonie) Vander Beek and Ella (Mrs. Gysbert) Van Eden.
