He served in the Merchant Marines as a boiler technician and was also a police officer in the town of Weathersfield for several years. He also worked in various shops doing welding and boiler repair.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gereldine (Baker) Burpee; one son, Steven F. Burpee of Cavendish; one daughter, Debbie Currie of Weathersfield; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed being with his family and raising rabbits. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed card games, checkers, gardening and hunting.
Graveside services will be held at Ascutneyville Cemetery in Ascutney.
