ASSONET ~ Carlton E. Abbott, Sr. 87, of Assonet died Monday January 25, 2010, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River Massachusetts the son of the late Elizabeth (Langton) Abbott, he was the husband of Marion (Ellis) Abbott, with whom he shared a fifty-one year marriage.

Mr. Abbott served his country with the Civilian Conservation Corps and the United States Army during World War II in China, Berma and the Indian Theatre. After serving his country, he worked as a diesel mechanic and truck driver for the R. Zoppo Corporation for more than thirty years.

Mr. Abbott was a driver for the Freetown Council on Aging for seventeen years. He also was active at one time with the Happy Hearts Senior Citizens Club of Berkley and the Freetown Historical Society. Carlton was also a former scout master for Troop Thirty-Two in Freetown and enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Gertrude Cetola and Ruth Welch.

Funeral service will be held Thursday January 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson Street in Fall River, with burial to follow with Military Honors in the Assonet Burying Ground. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours with Video Photo Album will be Wednesday, January 27th from 4-7 PM in the funeral home.
