Winslow Kirk Abbott of West Chester Winslow Kirk "Dick" Abbott, 93, passed away on Sept. 20, 2014, in Hospice care at the Wellington Terrace in West Chester. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Montgomery (Supplee) Abbott. He was born in Baltimore, Md. to the late Clement Vernon and Lucy (Behr) Abbott. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in chemical engineering. He first worked on separating uranium isotopes as part of the Manhattan Project at Columbia University and in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He later worked for Atlas Powder Company and Imperial Chemical Industries in Wilmington, Del. After retirement, he volunteered at the United Methodist Church of West Chester, where he was a long-time member, and the Chester County Historical Society. He is survived by his loving children Winslow Kirk Abbott, Jr. (Barbara) of Henniker, N.H.; Richard Supplee Abbott (Jane) of Arnold, Md.; Arthurs Ferguson Abbott (Ellen) of West Chester; his grandchildren, Oliver, Lucy, Samuel, Zachary, William and Montgomery Jane Abbott; and great-grandchild, Agnes Abbott. Services and interment will be private at Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Chester County Historical Society, 225 North High Street, West Chester, PA 19380.
