BURLEY – Berniece Stephens Burgess, 89, of Burley, passed into the loving arms of God on Friday, September 19, 2014, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 28, 1925 in Burley, Idaho, the daughter of Edmond Alexander and Mary Stone Stephens. She attended grammar school in View and high school at Burley.
She married Melrose Burgess on June 21, 1941, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in March of 1956.
Berniece was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many callings over the years. Family and friends were Berniece's passion and delight. She was a consummate mother and homemaker.
In addition to raising her four children, she worked long hard hours with her husband each day making a living on their farm north of Paul. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Burgess (Carol); her daughter-in-law, Crystal Burgess-Martin (Doug); and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melrose; and three children: Ed Burgess, Roberta Burgess Hart, and Ron Burgess.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Minidoka Home Health and Hospice and their nurses, Abigail's in Home Care and their providers, Roxanne and Anna, and all of those who cared for her during her last few months.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Burley LDS Stake Center, 2050 Normal Ave., in Burley, where friends and family may call from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Officiating will be Bishop Larry Kloepfer. Burial will follow at the Paul Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
