C. B. Shropshire and his family left his work with the Farmersville, TX congregation in April, 1941, to move to Portland, OR to begin his work with the Central congregation, which was meeting at that time on Division Street. He became the second full-time preacher in the state of Oregon (I seem to remember that L. L. Freeman was the other). Very soon afterward, the church was soon to experience rapid growth in the Northwest due to the influx of Christians moving there from the south to work in defense industries during the World War II and by military men and families stationed in the area. He was instrumental in encouraging other gospel preachers to move to the area to help with new congregations that had been established as a result of this growth. New congrega-tions were begun in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Shropshire did a great deal of radio preaching, gospel meetings and arranged lectureships in newly established congregations to strengthen them. Except for a few years when he worked with congregations in California and Nevada, he spent the rest of his life in Oregon, usually working with small congregations, as he was primarily supported by other congregations and individuals in Texas and other places. ---Benjamin M.
