Hezekiah is child #4 and son to Elizabeth Maxson and Benjamin H. Tharp. Siblings: Susannah, Experience, Bethia, Hannah, Nancy and Timothy.

He married Huldah Cox on June 4, 1817 in Lewis County, WV. Children: Christina, Rebecca, Martha, Susannah, Benjamin F., Huldah, Sarah, Juliette, Nancy, Timothy Smith, Almira, infant son and William Marshall.

Hezekiah had land grants in Freeman's Creek 1838 and land adjacent to Evan Arnold 1836, both in Lewis Co, WV. He built the first mill in Freeman's Creek area.

1840 and 1850 Census they were living in Lewis Co. Soon after Hezekiah and Hulda moved to Van Buren Co, IA to be near several of their children.
