FOUR CHILDREN DROWN IN RIVER
Titus Blessing, Kootenai County Pioneeer, Meet Terrible Affliction

A terrible accident occurred at Medimon, up the Coeur d'Alene River last week Wednesday afternoon, when four children drowned while skating.

They were Lee Kellam age 16; Philip Blessing age 14; Bessie Blessing age 12; and John Blessing age 8. The Blessing children were all from the family of Titus BLessing, a well-known pioneer.

A party of five children went skating on the meadows that morning and gradually ventured out on the lake. People who were watching them from the veranda of the Medimont hotel became alarmed at their action and were just taking steps to caution the children when to their horror, the ice gave way and the whole party disappeared in the water.

The spectators dashed to the rescue at once, but before the quarter mile of ground that intervened could be traversed, all but one of the children had disappeared. He was rescued with difficulty as the water was so deep that it was over the heads of the tallest in the rescue party.
