Wife, Mattie J. (Slack) Jenks divorced E. E. Jenks. Official divorce records prior to 1910 do not exist due to flooding of the Reno county KS Courthouse and the subsequent destruction of the severely water damaged record books. Date info came from the daily journal of Mattie's father, Samuel Slack Jr., who wrote "January 23, 1903, Mattie Jenks devorce case". There were strong indications the divorce was filed due to Elmer Jenks' desertion and non-support of the family. This journal has been transcribed and an electronic copy was donated to the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka KS. Copies of the original handwritten journal are in the possession of many descendants of Sam Slack.
