Bert LaBarge, 101, of Tupper Lake, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998 at Mercy Healtcare Center.
Born Jan. 1, 1897 in Brandon, NY, he was the son of Antoine and Rose (Lamora) LaBarge.
He attended school in Derrick, NY, moving to Piercefield with his family in 1910.
Mr. LaBarge enlisted in the U.S. Army and was the last living veteran of W.W. I in Franklin County. Honorably discharged, he and the former Beulah LaBounty of Hinkley, NY, whom he met while working at the Oval Wood Dish in Tupper Lake, were married at Holy Name Church on Oct. 10, 1921. The couple celebrated their diamond anniversary of "60" years in 1981.
Mr. LaBarge began delivering oil by mule team and wagon and continued with Mobile Oil for 36 years. Moving about Northern New York the couple retired to Tupper Lake in 1958.
Survivors include three sons, Willard J. LaBarge of Albany and Donald P. and Robert J. LaBarge both of Tupper Lake; one daughter, Helen Kennision of Middleburgh, NY; 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Pearl) Allain and Mrs. Henry (Ruby) LaLonde both of Tonawanda, NY.
Besides his wife, who died in 1985, he was predeceased by one son, Berton in 1993; an infant brother and six sisters.
Calling hours were Saturday at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral Mass was held at Holy Name Church on Monday. Burial will take place at Holy Name Cemetery in the spring.
