Catherine married Peter Aloysius Gaul on November 7, 1882 in Plymouth, Iowa.

MRS. CATHERINE GAUL WAS PIONEER FARM WOMAN--FUNERAL OF EARLY SETTLER HELD MONDAY

Mrs. Peter Gaul, nee Catherine Delperdang, one of the early settlers of this vicinity, passed on at her home in Alton Thursday after an illness of several months.

Born on July 8th, 1863 at Springbrook, Iowa, she came to Sioux County with her parents from eastern Iowa in the early 70’s. Her parents settled on a farm southeast of Alton and she attended the first school of that district, held in the hay-loft of her father’s barn. She was married in the Prairie Church to Peter Gaul. Father Meis of Le Mars officiating on November 7th, 1882. The couple farmed in this vicinity until some 15 years ago when they moved to Alton. Mr. Gaul died on November 18th, 1927.

Of the fifteen children born to the pioneer couple, twelve survive their mother, who at the time of her passing had sixty-two grandchildren, one great-grand-child. The children are John, Mrs. Mike Holles (Kate), Peter, all of Granville; Mrs. Fred Croat, (Rose) of Wilmont, Minnesota; Mrs. Emil Hansen (Margaret) Oyens; Anton, Granville; Lambert, Aadrian, Minnesota; Ferdinand, Chatsworth; Mrs. John Vortherns (Mary), Martin, both of Granville; Nick, Alton; Fred, Granville. The oldest daughter, Anna, Mrs. Earnest Kern, died September 15th, 1918 and two children died in infancy.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Mary’s Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
