Born and raised in Missouri most of his life, he moved to California sometime in the early 1940's. While in missouri, he worked mostly in the clay and coal mines. He married Minnie Rose Gifford October 12, 1918. Together they raised six children, one of whom died at two years of age. Their children are: Raymond Lester, James William Jr., Edna Lorene, Betty Jane, Alene Joan, and Robert Lee. James loved bowling and for a long time was a member of a bowling league. He died at the age of 69 years, 4 months, and 3 days. Besides his three adult children, he left one brother, two sisters, eleven grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
