Cenotaph; David was actually buried in his family’s plot in Shockoe Hill Cemetery after his father seems to have interceded.

Residence Richmond VA; 20 years old.
Enlisted on 4/21/1861, he was mustered into "F" Co. VA 21st Infantry as a Private.
On 5/1/1862 he was transferred as 4th Sergt into VA Letcher Light Artillery by Special Order #100.
Promoted to 3rd Sergeant 1/1863.

After receiving a letter from David's father, David Sr. (living in New Orleans) requesting David Jr.'s transfer into Louisiana artillery, the Lt. Colonel of 1st Louisiana Artillery requested on 2/19/1863 that transfer into his artillery as 2nd. Lieutenant; denied by Assistant Adjutant General by reason that "The applicant is a Virginian"..."there are plenty of gallant young men in La. to fill the vacancies in this regiment", thus, keeping David Jr. with a Virginia unit.

He "Died from disease contracted at battle of Chancellorsville".
Funeral was held in St Paul's Church, Richmond, VA.

The Letcher Light Artillery was organized in Richmond, VA on 2/17/62; it was surrendered 4/9/65.
